Student Visa Policy

The latest student visa policy changes, give more opportunities for international students to gain work permits and apply for permanent residentship after completion of studies. The following list summarizes the main changes to New Zealand student policy:
arow Eligible students can apply to work up to 20 hours in any given week during the academic year.
arow Student undertaking a course of 12 months or more may work full-time in New Zealand over the summer holidays (conditions apply).
arow International students, who have graduated from a course in New Zealand that would gain points under the Skilled Migrant Category, may apply for a 1 year open work permit.
arow Partners of students studying in areas of absolute skill shortage and partners of all postgraduate student may apply for a work permit, valid for the duration of the student's course of study.
The revised student policy facilitates further permits to eligible student in the following way:
Graduate Job Search Work visa / permit

People who:
arow Have Successfully completed in New Zealand, a qualification that would qualify for points under the Skilled Migrant Category and,
arow  Apply for a work visa/permit no later than 3 months after the end date of their student permit for that qualification,
arow May be granted a work visa/permit for a maximum of 1-2 years (Conditions Apply)
arow Evidence of an offer employment is not required.

Application Must Provide:
arow A completed work visa/permit application form and fee; and
arow Evidence that they have completed a qualification in New Zealand that would qualify for points under Skilled Migrant category.
arow Evidence that they have a minimum $2,100 in funds available to maintain themselves during their 1 year stay in New Zealand (travelers' cheque or bank documents in the applicant's name are acceptable)
